A growing role in Denmark’s strategic sector cooperation with countries in the Global South

02-03-25

Denmark introduced its Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC) programme in 2015 and, in 2017, Danida Fellowship Centre launched its first learning programmes tailored to support the objectives set by the SSCs. Since then, our learning programmes and other initiatives to support these sector partnerships have increased steadily in number.

In 2024, nearly 84% of the participants in our learning activities were direct partners or key stakeholders in SSC partnerships. This highlights the ongoing relevance of these activities. As Terkel Borg, sector counsellor for “Intellectual Property Rights” and “Innovation and Digital Government” at the Danish Embassy in Brazil puts it in the first video below,

Danida Fellowship Centre’s role in the sector collaboration should not be underestimated.

To make sure that the learning activities respond to needs and stay relevant, we always collaborate closely with the relevant Danish embassies, sector counsellors, line ministries and other Danish agencies involved in Strategic Sector Cooperation. We continually work to diversify learning approaches and subjects to support the objectives and targets of the sector partnerships, ensuring we reach as many relevant target groups as possible.

New learning opportunities in 2024 included two facilitated online courses that combined self-paced learning, assignments and interactive webinars. Additionally, we launched our first maritime learning programme focused on de-carbonisation, energy efficiency and new green solutions in shipping.
