First Master’s students under Denmark’s new Africa strategy begin their journey
01-03-25
As part of the Danish government’s “Africa’s Century” strategy to strengthen ties with African countries, Danida Fellowship Centre opened its doors to a new master’s scholarship programme in 2024 to support young professionals working in key sectors across Africa.
A total of 28 scholarships were awarded to professionals from organisations collaborating with Denmark under the Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC) programmes in Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa. These individuals are now pursuing two-year Master’s degrees in critical fields such as renewable energy, sustainable food production, urban planning, climate change adaptation and environmental engineering at Danish universities.
The first group of 17 students arrived in Denmark in August 2024, while the second group of 11 students began in February 2025. During their two years in Denmark, they will deepen their expertise to contribute to green transformation in their home countries.
Since their arrival, the first group has completed their first semester, forming strong connections with classmates and fellow scholarship recipients. Danida Fellowship Centre actively supports this network, fostering peer learning and collaboration.
