Participants per country

In 2024, total of 1150 people participated in DFC learning programmes in both Denmark and abroad as well as in facilitated online activities. This is an increase of 36% compared with 2023.

The participants came from 34 different countries – 18 countries in Africa, eight (8) in Asia, four (4) in Latin America, and four (4) countries in other regions.

Kenya, Ghana, India and Indonesia all have multiple SSC-projects.

Apart from Colombia and Brazil, who hosted two large local learning activities in 2024, Kenya (144), Ghana (101), India (92) and Indonesia (86) continue to be the countries nominating the highest number of candidates for DFC learning activities. With 423 participants originating from these four countries, they accounted for 37% of the total number of participants.

Continued focus on sustainability as a key aspect of our learning activities

Sustainability was integrated as an element in 28 out of the 49 learning activities DFC offered in 2024. This is an increase of five (5) compared with 2023. However, seen in relation to the number of activities implemented, it is a decrease from 61% of all activities in 2023 to 57% in 2024.

Men and women participating in the learning activities

When choosing between the many qualified applicants for Danida Fellowship Centre’s learning activities, the most important selection criteria are the candidate’s qualifications and motivation, as well as their strategic importance and linkages to the Danida-supported project nominating the candidate. A balanced representation of men and women is, however, an equally important criterion.

Since 2021, the percentage of women participating in Danida Fellowship Centre’s learning activities has increased year by year. As in previous years, the majority of applicants for learning activities in 2024 were men (52%), but we are proud that we are slowly getting nearer to half of all participants being women. From 40% in 2021 to 48% in 2024.
