Invitation to a debate about conflict management and the environment

24-10-22

Join us at UNION, Nørre Allé 7, in Copenhagen at 4.30 – 5.30 pm on 2 November 2022 to discuss how to solve environmental disputes when different interests are at stake. Among the discussants are Danida fellows from the Cambodian NGO Prey Lang Community.

Increasing pressure on the earth’s resources and the transition to more sustainable production are the cause of many disputes.

What happens when different interests collide, and how do you deal with environmental conflicts?

You can get answers to these and many other questions, when the NGO Conducive Space for Peace and organisations from a number of countries in Asia and Africa welcome you to a debate about conflict management in environmental disputes.

You will meet representatives of the Cambodian NGO Prey Lang Community Network and hear about their over twenty-year struggle to protect a forest area of great environmental importance that is threatened by public and private timber interests.

In the three weeks up to the event, Prey Lang Community Network members and participants from other organisations and companies from Asia and Africa participate in Danida Fellowship Centre’s learning programme “Conflict management – environmental focus” facilitated by Conducive Space for Peace.

Before the event, we suggest that you read the below listed articles written by the Cambodian learning programme participants. The articles are about the fight to preserve the Prey Lang Forest, the largest lowland rainforest in mainland Southeast Asia.
