Danida’s support to research projects
Danish development assistance has offered grants for development research and capacity development for over forty years in line with current priorities and strategies. Danida Fellowship Centre
has since 2008 managed the research collaboration grants on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign affairs of Denmark.
Presently four modalities for support are in place:
Window 1 – Grants for research collaboration projects in Danida priority countries
Window 2 – Grants for research collaboration projects in selected growth countries
Mobility grants – for research stays in Denmark to strengthen research collaborations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark (MFA) provides grants for development research activities as part of Denmark’s international development cooperation. While the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) constitute an overall thematic framework for development cooperation and research, the objective of the Danish support to research cooperation is to contribute to new solutions with new knowledge.
The themes for support to research collaboration projects has changed time depending on the overall development support framework. Support has been granted within a wide variety of fields from research related to climate, agriculture, health, energy, water, food, economic development, democracy, and the rule of law.
The projects are implemented as collaborative research projects between researches in Denmark and in Danida priority countries, and since 2017 between Danish researchers and researchers in selected growth countries.
Based on the political and strategic frameworks of Denmark’s development cooperation for support to development research Danida Fellowship Center manage the application rounds and ongoing research grants.
