Dr. Olman Segura-Bonilla, receives Danida Alumni Prize 2021 for participating in kick starting Costa Rica’s climate strategy

This year the Danida Alumni Prize is awarded to Dr. Olman Segura-Bonilla from Costa Rica for his contribution to Costa Rica’s green transition. The award takes place, while diplomats, world leaders, think tanks and NGOs from across the world meet in Glasgow at the climate conference COP26.
Dr. Olman Segura-Bonilla earned his Ph.D. from the research group IKE (Innovation, Knowlegde and Economic Dynamics) from Aalborg University in 2000. Segura-Bonilla was a Danida fellow at Aalborg University where he participated in the research project Sustainable Development Strategies for Central America under Danida’s Enhancing Research Capacity, ENRECA programme.

Costa Rica in the forefront
In his PhD project Segura-Bonilla, developed concepts that contributed to Costa Rica’s climate strategy in terms of carbon emission reduction, which later on became an essential part of the strategy. His innovative thinking and ability to create new knowlegde and implement this knowlegde has contributed in making Costa Rica a country in the forefront when it comes to green transition. Moreover, his interest in sustainable development has also made Costa Rica a pioneering country when it comes to eco-tourism.

An award show with greetings from the minister of development
This year the Danida Alumni prize is awarded in close connection with the 17th Globelics conference, which is being held on the 3-5. November 2021 in Costa Rica. The organization hosting the conference is the International Centre of Economic Policies for Sustainable Development (CINPE), which Dr. Olman is a part of.

The theme of the conference this year is: Innovation systems and Sustainable Development: new strategies for growth, social welfare and environmental sustainability. The celebration will be an open event and free for everyone.

Flemming Møller Mortensen, Minister of Development in Denmark, will be transmitting a video greeting to Dr. Olman Segura-Bonilla and Margrethe Holm Andersen, chairperson at Danida Fellowship Centre will be giving a motivation speech online to Dr. Olman Segura-Bonilla.

The award ceremony will take place on November 3, at 17.15-17.30 pm in Costa Rica, from where the event will be transmitted live online.

Danida Fellowship Centre inaugurated the Danida Alumni Prize in 2017 to celebrate the Danida alumni and their achievements around the world. Since the 1960s almost 30.000 individuals from the developing and growth countries that Denmark collaborates with have received a Danida fellowship either as Masters or PhD students or participants in Danida Fellowship Centre’s capacity developing learning programmes. The first prize was awarded to Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. LÆG LINK IND
