The More Women in Research manifesto

21-10-24

The More Women in Research manifesto is a powerful call to action aimed at addressing the significant underrepresentation of women in academia and research at all levels, particularly in Africa.

Read the manifesto. Share it in your network. Download it from here.

Initially drafted by 50 women researchers primarily from across the African continent during the More Women in Research engagement seminar in March 2024, co-organised by Danida Fellowship Centre, MS TCDC, and YouLead Africa, the manifesto acknowledges the vast scope and complexity of the issue. It offers key recommendations targeted at eight crucial stakeholder groups: women in research, government bodies, higher education and research institutions, publishers, funding organisations (both local and international), the private sector, civil society, and the media.

The official launch of the More Women in Research manifesto is 4 November 2024, the opening day of YouLead Africa. You can follow it livestreamed here.

A living document
We recognise that new perspectives and voices will continue to emerge each time the subject More Women in Research, and the manifesto’s recommendations, are discussed.

In light of this, we – the editorial group of the manifesto – have decided that the manifesto will be
a living document. New insights and comments will be incorporated as annexes and added to this page. Annex 1, for example, includes the inputs and feedback from the online dialogue held on 3 October 2024, which engaged 278 participants, predominantly women researchers from across Africa.

The More Women in Research manifesto is grounded in the belief that gender inclusive research teams drive innovation and improve problem solving, ultimately shaping a more equitable future for society as a whole. Watch the playlist More Women in Research on YouTube
