General information about the 2023 Call
Denmark’s Strategy for Development Cooperation, The World We Share, constitutes the thematic framework for the Call. The strategy emphasizes the importance of research collaboration between Danish universities and the research community in the Global South for generating knowledge and capacity as well as contributing to creativity and innovation.

The overall theme of the Call is “Development under conditions of climate change”. Countries eligible for research grants are selected amongst countries with expanded and targeted development cooperation with Denmark. In the case of the latter, the themes for research are aligned with the Strategic Sector Cooperation in these countries.

The deadline for the submission of Phase 1 applications is 24 February 2023 at 13:00 hrs CET. Applications must be submitted in English and electronically via Danida Fellowship Centre’s e-application system. Those prequalified in Phase 1 will be invited to make a detailed project proposal in Phase 2 of the application round. The projects selected for funding can start implementation in the second quarter of 2024.

The total allocation available for development research funding in 2023 is approximately DKK 200 million. Funding for 2023 is conditional as it depends on the Danish Parliament’s approval of the 2023 Finance Bill. The expected duration of a research project is up to 5 years and the maximum grant for a project is DKK 10 million.
