We design, manage, and deliver a broad range of learning activities aimed at strengthening individual competencies, enhancing institutional capacity, and supporting organisational change across countries supported by Denmark’s development cooperation.
Danida Fellowship Centre collaborates with partners across all sectors in Denmark’s development cooperation. We work with public institutions, civil society organisations, research environments, and private sector actors in partner countries to strengthen capacity, and support sustainable development. In close coordination with Danish embassies, government and local authorities, civil society organisations and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we ensure that our learning activities and partnerships contribute effectively to project priorities and sustainable development.
Participants are typically professionals from public institutions, civil society organisations, universities and private sector partners involved in Denmark’s development cooperation. Eligible participants are nominated through projects and programmes funded by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, often in collaboration with Danish embassies. Participation is not open to individuals on a self-application basis.
Participation in Danida Fellowship Centre’s learning activities is based on nomination through Danish-funded development projects and sector programmes. We do not accept unsolicited applications from individuals or institutions outside this framework.
The application procedure generally follows these steps:
Nomination: Participants are nominated by their organisation, such as a ministry, public institution, or civil society organisation, in coordination with the relevant Danish embassy or the project’s Danish partner.
Application: Nominees are invited to submit an application through Danida Fellowship Centre’s application system.
Review: Applications are reviewed by the Danish programme partner to ensure they meet the eligibility criteria, including relevance to the programme topic, professional background, command of English, and alignment with Danish development cooperation priorities.
Final Selection: Danida Fellowship Centre and the place of study makes the final selection. The selected participants are notified directly by their Danish programme partner. Danida Fellowship Centre sends them a letter of acceptance and details about travel, accommodation, and course participation.
Our learning activities take place in Denmark, in partner countries, across regions, and online.
Most courses are held in Denmark, where participants benefit from exposure to Danish institutions, practices, approaches, and expertise. We also organise in-country and regional courses closer to where participants work, making it easier to adapt the learning to local contexts. In addition, some learning activities are delivered online or in hybrid formats, allowing for greater flexibility and broader participation.
Our learning activities are delivered by a wide range of trusted learning partners, including Danish universities, training institutions, and consultancy firms. We work with learning partners that have strong academic and professional expertise, practical experience in development cooperation, and the ability to design participatory, practice-oriented learning processes. Many of our learning providers also collaborate with institutions and facilitators in partner countries to ensure that the learning is contextually relevant and locally anchored. All providers are selected through competitive selective processes to ensure high quality, relevance, and value for money in the delivery of our programmes
The Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC) is a key instrument in Denmark’s development cooperation that promotes long-term partnerships between Danish public authorities and their counterparts in partner countries. The aim is to strengthen public sector capacity and promote sustainable solutions within sectors where Denmark has strong expertise such as water, the circular economy, energy, health, food safety, statistics and digitalisation. Through this cooperation, Danish authorities share knowledge, regulatory experiences, and best practices to support sustainable development and improve public service delivery in partner countries. Danida Fellowship Centre supports the Strategic Sector Cooperation by developing and implementing learning programmes and activities that build the capacity of key stakeholders involved in the cooperation - both in Denmark and in partner countries.
