STUDY STAYS FOR PhD STUDENTS

PhD students who are part of a research collaboration project supported by Danida may come to Denmark to study and collaborate with research colleagues for one or more periods during their PhD studies.

ADMINISTRATIVE GUIDELINES

We do not give grants to individual PhD students and postdocs. Support to PhD students is included in the development research or BSU project grants

Danida Fellowship Centre assists with the travel arrangements, visa, accommodation and other logistical matters before a PhD student's or postdoc's arrival and throughout their study stay in Denmark. The research or BSU project grant covers expenses for this assistance. An invoice will be prepared and sent to the grant holding/responsible institution after each end of a PhD study stay covering the actual expenses.
Kindly contact us at least three months prior to the planned study stay in Denmark.

We advise counterparts and hosts of PhD students to read the administrative guidelines and follow the procedures for logistical services.

Administrative guidelines

The PhD student’s counterpart in Denmark must provide the following: 

A copy of the PhD student’s passport (page with names and date of birth)
The e-mail address of the PhD student
A letter of invitation to the PhD student (see draft letter below)

The research Principal Investigator (PI) is to forward a signed letter of invitation to the PhD student together with Guide for Danida fellows in Denmark. The PI must send Danida Fellowship Centre a copy of the letter. The exact period of the study stay should be coordinated with Danida Fellowship Centre in advance. The letter of invitation must be written on paper with the official letterhead of the Danish university. See draft letter Please note that Danida fellows arriving in Denmark for the second or third time should also receive a letter of invitation. All Danida fellows are asked to show this letter in connection with their visa application and when travelling to Denmark.

Mikael Meldstad has joined us as a financial controller. Mikael has previously worked as an international controller for Caritas Denmark and the NGO Global Aktion and has served as financial manager at the Alternative Information and Development Centre in Cape Town and the Red-Green Alliance in Denmark.
