The Danida Fellows Network is a dynamic knowledge ecosystem made up of Danida fellows who have participated in learning activities or been involved in Danida-supported research projects. The network is a remarkable resource, rich in agency, knowledge and expertise and with enormous potential to help address local and global challenges. Cross-network learning led in 2024 to several new initiatives with the purpose of driving meaningful change.
Throughout 2024, Danida Fellowship Centre collaborated with the coordinators of the 14 National Danida Fellows Networks to enable social learning and cultivation of communities of practice. This work has partly been guided by the theory and practice of Etienne and Beverly Wenger-Trayner, social learning theorists and consultants, who co-facilitated the 2024 Learning and Inspiration Workshop in Tanzania for the coordinators of the national chapters of Danida Fellows Network. In addition, Danida Fellowship Centre provided virtual learning sessions for this community throughout the year, exploring key topics such as distributed leadership, articulating a compelling network’s value and the development of a network container, where a core group of network members facilitate other members’ connections and coordinate collective efforts.
We are pleased to report that this cross-network learning has led to several new initiatives, with some National Danida Fellows Networks exploring and strengthening the cultivation of sub-groups around key themes relevant to their members. Excitingly, it has also inspired the further development of Danida Alumni Network Latin America, a regional partnership of the National Danida Fellows Networks in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico. Together, these four networks curated and co-hosted a regional dialogue series on water management issues, covering complex and inter-sectoral topics such as the psychology of flood disaster risk management, water footprint and geopolitics, water management in the city of Bogotá and the relationship between agriculture and water.
