A Schengen visa or a temporary residence permit for Denmark is required for citizens of most countries. A residence permit is always required, if the stay in Denmark exceeds 90 days. Danida Fellowship Centre pays for the Danish residence permit and reimburses the cost of a Schengen visa on the basis of a receipt. Please note that Danida Fellowship Centre will not cover travel/hotel costs related to obtaining a visa or residence permit. As the processing time of a Schengen visa/residence permit can be rather lengthy, it is important to apply as soon as you receive your Letter of Acceptance or Letter of Invitation from Danida Fellowship Centre. Please contact Danida Fellowship Centre, if your Schengen visa or residence permit has not been issued one week prior to your planned departure for Denmark.
It is the Danida fellow’s own responsibility to ensure that the Schengen visa/residence permit is valid for the full length of your period of study. If the residence permit expires before the end of your study stay in Denmark, you must inform Danida Fellowship Centre as soon as possible and not later than one month prior to the expiry of your permit. A Schengen visa/residence permit allows the holder to enter and transit through any of the Schengen countries during their period of study in Denmark. A Schengen visa is valid for up to 90 days and can be issued for one, two or multiple entries. A Schengen visa cannot be extended. A temporary residence permit is valid for the full period of study and it can be extended, but it is only valid for studies at the predetermined place of study.
Danida fellows must carry a photocopy of their passport with them at all times during their stay in Denmark and should present it on demand, if requested by the police or another public authority. Should problems with the Danish authorities arise, contact Danida Fellowship Centre.
