Published April 15, 2026

Strengthening the Danish-African university collaboration

We are pleased to announce the second call under the Knowledge and Innovation Programme (KIP), the university collaboration initiative connecting Danish and African universities. In this newsletter, we introduce the new call, the online information meeting on 12 May – and feature a series of interviews and stories from projects selected for funding in 2025.

NEW Call – Knowledge and Innovation Programme

Launched by the Danish government in June 2025, the Knowledge and Innovation Programme is now open for its second round of applications. Managed by the Danida Fellowship Centre, it supports partnerships between African universities and universities in the Kingdom of Denmark focused on collaborative learning, innovation, skills development, and student mobility to address shared global challenges. Deadline 15 September 2026.

Partnership for Climate Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Education

The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) is taking a new approach to international collaboration. “In the world we live in today, our students need both the knowledge and the experience to work globally and to develop solutions that function in real-world conditions in different parts of the world,” says Morten Overgaard, director of DTU’s Office of International Education.

The Africa, Business and Society project

“The world of business is evolving faster than what we teach about it in our lecture rooms.  We need to present multidimensional perspectives in our teaching,” says Professor Lindsay Whitfield at Copenhagen Business School, who coordinates the “Africa, Business and Society” project.

Advancing Sustainable Animal Production and Biodiversity

“I can’t wait to start working with our African and European colleagues and see the first student exchanges take place. When those students graduate, I’ll know we’ve made a real impact,” says Grum Gebreyesus, lead coordinator of the project Advancing Sustainable Animal Production and Biodiversity.

Co-designing Kenyan-Danish AI and Robotics for Sustainability and Impact

The WildDrone project responds to the rapid decline in biodiversity by developing a sustainable robotics and drone ecosystem for East Africa. With Knowledge and Innovation seed funding, the consortium behind the project has also begun enabling an educational ecosystem linking Kenyan and Danish universities and supporting collaboration in innovation, robotics, AI, and technology.
