On Thursday, 22 August 2024, 17 enthusiastic young professionals from various African countries arrived in Denmark to begin a new chapter in their lives as Master’s students at Danish universities. Among them was Ronaldo Juma Jaoko from Kenya.
Earlier this year, in June, we had the opportunity to visit Ronaldo Juma Jaoko at his workplace, the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), in Nairobi.
During our visit, Ronaldo shared his aspirations for the future and how he hopes his studies in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics at the University of Copenhagen will benefit his work and the broader green transformation in Kenya.
Now in Denmark, Ronaldo is settling into his new environment, his home for the next two years. He is preparing to start his studies next week.
“I am excited to learn and bring back new knowledge that will help address some of the environmental challenges we face back home,” says Ronaldo.
In February, 13 more students from Africa will enroll at Danish universities and ver the coming two years, Ronaldo and his fellow students from Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa will pursue Master’s degrees in fields related to climate change, environmental sustainability and the green transition at universities across Denmark. Danida Fellowship Centre is supporting their academic journey and their stay in Denmark. The Centre will follow the students closely as they connect with fellow students and lecturers and generally immerse themselves in the Danish academic environment. The Centre will also promote engagement and knowledge sharing among peers and other professionals in their fields either in Denmark or abroad.
“Ronaldo Juma and his peers are not only Master’s students, they are also Danida fellows and therefore members of the Danida Fellows Network, a global network dedicated to sharing knowledge and promoting sustainable change,” says Sophie Kjær, Capacity Development Advisor, Danida Fellowship Centre.
Danida Fellows Network provides a platform for all Danida fellows to share experiences and insights, fostering a community of learning and collaboration that transcends professions, sectors, and borders.
