Invitation, travel, arrival and expectations

Danida Fellowship Centre arranges practical matters before your arrival — including flights, accommodation and insurance — to ensure a smooth start to your stay in Denmark.

You will receive your travel documents and Letter of Acceptance before departure. Please bring these with you, as they may be required upon arrival.

During your stay, active participation in all learning activities is expected.

Private travel must take place outside the programme, and Danida Fellowship Centre cannot assist with personal travel changes.

All fellows are covered by travel and health insurance during their stay in Denmark.

TRAVEL AND INVITATION DOCUMENTS

About two months before your departure for Denmark, you will receive your flight ticket, travel insurance papers and a Letter of Acceptance or a Letter of Invitation from our office. If you need a visa for Denmark (please see Visa and residence permit), you will need to have the following documents when you apply.

A valid passport (required for entry into Denmark) and your Letter of Acceptance or Letter of Invitation from Danida Fellowship Centre.

Please be aware that the Danish Immigration Authorities at the airport may request to see your Letter of Acceptance/Letter of Invitation upon your arrival. We therefore recommend that you carry a printed copy of this document with you in your hand luggage.

TRAVEL AND ARRIVAL

Danida Fellowship Centre books and pays for your return flight, economy class, to and from Denmark. Danida Fellowship Centre also arranges your accommodation.

The flight ticket will be sent to you together with information about how to get to the Danida Fellowship Centre hostel or your hotel. If Copenhagen is not your final destination, you will receive information about your onward journey.

If you arrive later than scheduled, please inform your contact at Danida Fellowship Centre via email.

If your luggage is delayed or lost, please ask the airline for a PIR (Property Irregularity Report) and inform Danida Fellowship Centre about it on the first day of your stay.

Health insurance

Danida fellows are covered by a travel and health insurance during their stay.

VISITS TO OTHER COUNTRIES

If you wish to visit other countries during or after the learning programme in Denmark you are welcome to do so in your spare time or during weekends, if it does not interfere with the planned activities of the learning programme. Please note that Danida Fellowship Centre is not able to assist you concerning your flight ticket, insurance, accommodation or visa.

We do not recommend visits or changes prior to the learning programme as your journey, with its related essential arrival and welcome information, is planned many weeks before your arrival in Denmark.

Expectations

Participation in all aspects of the learning activity for which you have been granted a fellowship is mandatory. Fellowships are both costly and in high demand, and we therefore expect you to be highly motivated and to participate actively in all elements of the programme for which you have been selected.

You are expected to show cause to both Danida Fellowship Centre and the place of study, should you be prevented from participating. Absence from course activities without due cause will result in a reduction in per diems and, should the absence be of a longer duration, it may result in the termination of the fellowship.

This also means that all private travel during your stay in Denmark must be undertaken outside schedule of the learning activity. Should you be late for or absent from lectures, whether due to travel delays or other reasons related to private travel, such absences will likewise result in a reduction in per diems. All arrangements related to private travel will be your own responsibility.
